Natural Gas: A Key Fuel for the Energy Transition

Natural gas can replace many coal applications and generates half as many emissions of greenhouse gases as coal in the production of electricity. Flexible and manageable, it is an ideal complement to renewable energies.

In the gas markets, TotalEnergies focuses on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which can be shipped everywhere in the world. LNG accounts for around 11% of the total gas market and saw strong growth in 2022 (up 6%).

Cameron LNG, at the heart of TotalEnergies' LNG strategy

Located in Louisiana along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the Cameron LNG terminal is ideally situated for exporting LNG to the rest of the world, including Europe. Over the past few years, the site has enabled TotalEnergies to become the largest exporter of LNG in the United States.

In 2022, the Company and its partners Hackberry Carbon Sequestration (HCS), launched a project that will capture and store up to two million tons of CO2 per year, mainly from Cameron LNG, in order to decarbonize the site's production.

We’re proving that LNG can contribute to the transition of our global energy economy towards a lower-carbon future.
