Feature
Operating in the United States since 1957, TotalEnergies is focused on identifying opportunities to meet growing energy needs of the country while reducing its emissions. In more than 30 U.S. states, the Company is developing an integrated portfolio combining 25 GW of low-carbon power generation assets, storage projects and trading activities. It is also America’s leading exporter of LNG, an essential complement to offset the intermittent nature of renewable energies. Below is an overview of our multi-energy activities in the United States.

TotalEnergies, the leading exporter of American LNG
In the United States, TotalEnergies is active in natural gas liquefaction:
- in Louisiana, through its 16.6% stake in the Cameron LNG plant;
- in Texas, through the development of the Rio Grande LNG project;
- via contracts to purchase LNG with the main LNG terminals in the United States.
These positions rank the Company as the leading exporter of American LNG since 2021, with a volume of more than 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), which has enabled us to contribute to the energy supply to the European continent in these times of gas crisis. By 2030, we are aiming to have an American LNG export capacity in excess of 15 MTPA.
In North America, we are also involved in LNG in Mexico, in the state of Baja California, through our 16.6% stake in the Energia Costa Azul LNG liquefaction plant.
Natural gas
In Fort Worth, Texas, TotalEnergies operates the Barnett gas field, where the Company is implementing its global commitment to reduce methane emissions by 80% by 2030 compared with 2020.
Biogas
TotalEnergies is developing biomethane production in the United States. Since 2021, we have been working with Clean Energy to accelerate the development of this sector in the United States, to meet the growing demand for renewable natural gas in vehicle fleets. We provide our expertise in the production of biomethane at the Friona (Texas) site, which is then distributed by Clean Energy through its retail network of service stations.

Petroleum products
From exploration and production to marketing, via processing and upgrading, TotalEnergies is active across the entire petroleum products value chain in the United States. We have interests in the Jack and Tahiti fields (in production) and the Ballymore field (under development), all in the Gulf of Mexico. We operate the refining-petrochemicals platform in Port Arthur, Texas, as well as petrochemical plants in Carville (Louisiana) and La Porte (Texas).

Electricity
The United States is among the world's most dynamic renewable energy markets. In just a few years, TotalEnergies has deployed solar farm, decentralised solar and wind power projects in the country, some of which have been enhanced by battery storage units. Gas-fired power plants complement these assets to compensate for the intermittent nature of renewable energy production. With a capacity of 25 GW in operation or under development, all these projects contribute to the objective of increasing our electricity production to more than 100 TWh by 2030. This approach is part of our balanced multi-energy strategy. We are replicating our integrated Oil & Gas model across the electricity value chain by developing a differentiated, cost-effective model: Integrated Power.
Wind
TotalEnergies entered the offshore wind energy sector in the United States in 2022 with the acquisition of two offshore concessions in New York Bay and North Carolina, in order to produce enough energy to cover the requirements of 1.3 million American homes:
- with the Attentive Energy project in New York, a wind farm with a production capacity of more than 3 GW, with commissioning scheduled for 2029;
- with the Carolina Long Bay project, with a production capacity of 1 GW, operational from 2031.

Solar
TotalEnergies is building an extensive portfolio of solar and battery storage projects across the United States. We are committed to producing one gigawatt of this renewable energy to cover the entire electricity consumption of our petrochemical sites in the United States, including the Port Arthur (Texas) platform and the La Porte (Texas) and Carville (Louisiana) plants. Our portfolio includes 8 GW of industrial-scale solar power production and battery storage – in operation or under development – following the purchase of projects from SunChase Power, the acquisition of Core Solar and 50% of Clearway, and our partnership with Hanwha Energy.
Our major projects include: Myrtle Solar, a 380 MW solar plant equipped with a battery storage system, and Danish Fields, with a capacity of 720 MW and also equipped with a storage system, which will be the Company's biggest large-scale solar plant in the United States when commissioned in 2024.
